By: Rebecca Jacobs

Hot chocolate season is officially here, and whether you prefer regular old hot cocoa or prefer something a little more festive, we’re sharing our ultimate healthy chocolate recipe that you’ll want to sip on all winter long.

This hot chocolate is refined sugar-free and contains hidden superfoods, making it something you can enjoy without the guilt.

We’re also sharing some holiday-inspired ingredients you can add if you’re feeling like jazzing things up.

First, We’re Dishing on The Hidden Superfood Ingredients

Besides the fact that this decadent drink is a much healthier alternative to traditional hot chocolate, it also contains some superfood spices, making it even healthier.

Here’s a bit more about the ingredients that give this healthy hot chocolate an added boost.

Unsweetened Cacao Powder

One of the biggest things that sets this healthy hot chocolate apart from the store-bought packets is that we use the real deal — real cacao powder, which is key because all the nutritional goodness comes from the real thing.

And some research has shown that cocoa may come with some heart and brain-supporting properties, thanks to its rich flavanol content.

When making your healthy hot chocolate, just be sure to stick to unsweetened cacao powder such as Navitas Organics or Better Body Foods Cacao Powder

Ground Turmeric

Turmeric is one of the most buzzed-about superfood spices thanks to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, but turmeric does oh so much more!

Studies have shown that turmeric also comes with some impressive immune-supporting properties, making it an excellent addition to a healthy diet all year long.

Some research has also shown that turmeric may even be beneficial for helping us manage exercise-related muscle soreness (heck, yes!)

All these benefits give us yet another good reason to go ahead and sprinkle some of this golden goodness into this healthy hot chocolate.

Ghee

Ghee is what gives this healthy hot chocolate an added boost of creaminess, and it’s actually a super healthy addition too. It’s rich in nutrients, including vitamins A, E, and K, and fatty acids.

Side note — if you want this to be completely dairy-free, you can swap out the ghee and use coconut oil instead.
