How to Make a Healthy Halloween Snack Board

This year, we made a Halloween snack board using not only some of our favorite healthier sweets but plenty of healthy snacks that double as festive treats this time of year.

Here are some of the ingredients we featured in our snack board this year.

Healthier Lower Sugar Candy

Halloween is traditionally all about candy and you don’t have to completely avoid it in order to celebrate this sweet holiday a bit healthier — you can actually find some lower sugar candy at places like Whole Foods.

We love these healthier options for our Halloween sweet treat cravings:

Fruits & Veggies

When putting together your snack board, think of some fiber-rich foods to add to the mix.

Here are some of the nutritious fiber-rich foods we used that also happen to be perfectly festive for this time of year.

  • Tangerines
  • Grapes
  • Carrot sticks
  • Celery sticks
  • Unsweetened dried mango
  • Medjool dates (natures caramel!)
  • Sweet seasonal fruits like apples, figs, and persimmons

Festive Halloween Snacks

This time of year, you can find so many yummy and healthy snacks, like Mary’s Gone Seaweed and Black Sesame Crackers or Halloween-inspired pretzels and chips, like Garden Veggie’s ghost chips, or Halloween tortilla chips (like Mission and Xochitl Brand — found at stores like Whole Foods and Target).

Some other delicious options to add to your healthy Halloween snack board include:

  • Popcorn (we love the Lesser Evil brand!)
  • Roasted chickpeas or pumpkin seeds
  • Plantain chips
  • Dehydrated veggie chips like Rhythm Superfoods Kale, Beet, or Carrot chips

Sauces & Dips

There are so many tasty and healthy sauce and dip options that would pair perfectly with Halloween chips, pretzels, and veggies.

Here are some of our favorites:

  • Guacamole
  • Red pepper hummus
  • Salsa
  • Greek or coconut yogurt (add lemon juice to make it savory and cinnamon to make it sweet!)

Healthy Fats & Added Protein-Rich Snacks

To balance out the tasty (healthier) sweets, try adding some healthy fats and added protein. Here are some delicious ideas:

  • Pitted olives
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Cheese cubes
  • Dairy-free cheese like Kite Hill nut-based cheese
  • Unsalted nuts and seeds such as almonds, walnuts, or pumpkin seeds

Snacks Boards = A Healthier Way to Celebrate Halloween

While we often think about candy when it comes to Halloween, a healthy Halloween snack board makes the ultimate way to still enjoy all the delicious and festive foods, but in a much healthier way and without all the added sugar.

So go ahead and customize a snack board based on what you and your family like to enjoy this time of year — not only does it make for a fun family activity, but snack boards make a delicious and healthier way to celebrate Halloween.
