While the words ‘healthy’ and ‘Halloween’ don’t typically go hand in hand, we’re here to change that — no deprivation required. Why yes, you can have a healthy holiday while still treating yourself to tasty sweet treats! It’s all about moderation, mindfulness, and healthy holiday swaps. With that said, we’re bringing you a four-step healthy Halloween bark that is every bit as festive as it is tasty. Did we mention it’s rich in protein, low in sugar, and made with wholesome ingredients? Trust us — this chilled dessert is so scary good that it will have you wondering what tricks are being played (hint: no tricks here!).
So, grab your healthy Halloween ingredients (and maybe your broom?), and let’s whip up these spooky sweets!
Healthy Halloween Bark Ingredients
We used protein-packed greek yogurt as our Healthy Halloween bark base! Just be sure to grab an unsweetened, full-fat variety to avoid sneaky sugars and soak up all those good-for-you nutrients.
Best of all, this can be made dairy-free or vegan. Simply swap the greek yogurt for your favorite coconut or nut-based yogurt. We recommend a thicker variety like Kite Hill Greek-style Almond Milk yogurt or Siggi’s Coconut Yogurt, but any brand should work!
Maple syrup gives this healthy Halloween bark a rich fall flavor without being processed or overly sweet. In addition to its high antioxidant level, maple syrup is loaded with minerals like zinc, magnesium, and potassium!
Blueberries are low in sugar, rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. They make the perfect healthy topping, giving this recipe a burst of all-natural flavor.
Frozen mango is sweet, creamy, and surprisingly nutritious! This tropical fruit is packed with Vitamin C, anti-inflammatory properties, and even makes a powerful skin food (thanks to Vitamin A) to combat the dry, fall air.
Toppings & Flavorings
Of course, we finished off our healthy Halloween bark with all-natural flavorings like vanilla extract and yummy toppings! Here are some of our favorites:
Googly Eye Candy: It wouldn’t be a Halloween treat without a spooky factor! Feel free to sprinkle on a store-bought brand, or if you want to keep it healthier, make your own candy eyes! Simply freeze a dot of greek yogurt topped with a single mini chocolate chip!
Smart Sweets: low in sugar and free from artificial ingredients, add these gummy worm candies if you’re craving something sweet and spooky.
Granola, nuts, or seeds: Amp up the crunch factor with a sprinkle of your favorite nuts and seeds or low-sugar granola! We love Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Granola or stirring in a handful of roasted pumpkin seeds.
