Your Beauty Products are a Waste of Money: These 6 Foods are What You Actually Need For Glowing Skin, Stronger Nails & Longer Hair

Stop wasting your money-choose foods over store-bought beauty products.

Are you guilty of falling victim to just about every high-end beauty product that promises to erase your wrinkles and help you grow long and luscious locks? Yes, girl, you are so not alone. And, if we’re being honest, it’s pretty easy to spend tons of cashola on the most expensive vitamins and supplements that come with a bunch of empty promises. You know, the ones that promise supple skin, long, thick hair, and strong nails. But, honestly many of these products are a waste of money, and here’s why.

Your body is amazing at producing everything it needs (that is if it’s fueled with the right foods). Your cells are constantly regenerating and whatever you feed it is what the cells have to go off of to essentially “reset.” So, the bottom line here, don’t cheat yourself. A poor diet full of processed, fried, or fatty foods is most definitely going to lead to dull skin, dry and brittle hair, and thin nails that seem like they break constantly. But, don’t worry because we always come with good news, and here it is.

With a nutrient-dense superfood-rich diet, your hair, skin, and nails are usually the first things to benefit. Basically, if you take care of your body–your body will take care of you. It’s kind of an I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine kinda deal, except with your own body. Eat right, and you won’t need those beauty products that will cost you hundreds of hard earned dollars.

So real talk-what do we need to be eating for that long, lush mane of your dreams, nails that are unbreakable, and skin that glows? All you need to do is focus on feeding your body (and those cells!) proper nutrition from real, wholesome foods. And the best part? You don’t have to break the bank! There are certain foods that are particularly great at giving us the nutrients we need for amazing hair, skin, and nails. Why? Because these three things are made up of essentially the same types of cells and the foods we’re about to show you are incredible when it comes to providing dense nutrients that allow them to thrive.

So, get your grocery list out, and get these foods on your list ASAP! You’re going to want to fuel up on these as often as possible.

6 Beauty Foods For Radiating Skin, Strong Nails & Luscious Hair

#1 Nuts & Seeds

Small but mighty, nuts and seeds pack in a powerful dose of nutritional value in a very small serving. Pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and almonds, in particular, are the ideal superfood options for your hair, skin, and nails. They’re super rich in plant-based protein, not to mention iron, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, and potassium. Iron supports blood flow and oxygenation which ensures that nutrients are being properly doled out to your body–from the tip of your head to those pedicure-ready toes. Plus, protein is essential for muscle growth and repair–seeds and nuts offer lots of it. The amino acids from protein kickstart your body’s collagen production which is absolutely essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails.

#2 Cold-water Fish

Research study after research study has proven time and time again that fatty fish (which are generally cold-water fish) has amazing benefits for our health–both mental and physical! Fish such as salmon, sardines, trout, and tuna have high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids which offer superhero-like power when it comes to slashing inflammation. This helps keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and beautiful. As if this wasn’t awesome enough, the fatty acids found in these types of fish assist our hair follicles in producing strong, shiny hair. Try and aim for around 8-12 ounces of fatty, cold-water fish each week.

#3 Eggs

If we’re talking hair, skin, and nail nutrition, it’s impossible not to mention biotin, a type of B-vitamin. Some research has been done to show that biotin is one of the key factors when it comes to strengthening your hair and nails. Egg yolks not only contain biotin but they’re packed with protein as well. Both of which are key nutrients for those long locks and strong nails.

#4 Red & Yellow Bell Peppers

Stuffed peppers? Fajitas? Dipped in a healthy dressing? Yes, please! Red and yellow bell peppers aren’t just delicious but they’re absolutely packed with vitamin C–more vitamin C than oranges, in fact. This well-known vitamin is great at giving our skin a more supple, wrinkle-free appearance. See ya crow’s feet!

#5 Dark Leafy Greens

When it comes to vegetables, the richer the color–the better. Dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale are packed with vitamins C, A, K, and antioxidants. With a diet rich in colorful veggies, you can kiss that dull skin and those brittle nails goodbye. All of the vitamins found in dark leafy greens support healthy collagen production and cell production, both essential parts of naturally supporting healthy hair, skin, and nails.

#6 Berries

Skip desserts that are high in sugar and fat and reach for a handful of berries instead. Or better yet, blend up a homemade blueberry “nice cream” with one cup of frozen blueberries, a frozen banana, and a splash of unsweetened almond milk.

Berries are loaded with antioxidants and essential minerals, and are great at giving our hair, skin, and nails the power to heal from any damage they might have endured. Plus, you don’t have to ask us twice to enjoy a bowl of blueberry “nice cream” or raspberries with our morning bowl of oatmeal.

The Bottom Line

While it’s easy to fall victim to the marketing ploy that we have to support our skin health by using countless beauty products filled with unnecessary ingredients, it’s even more important to nourish our bodies from the inside out. With a healthy inside comes that radiant and  youthful glow we all desire, and those luscious locks, and tough nails we are after. So, don’t underestimate the power of nutrition, and the power of taking care of yourself from the inside out.

Next time you’re at the grocery store, be sure to load up on these nutrient-dense, delicious power foods. Your body will totally thank you for it-inside and out!
