With that being said, we totally get it, superfoods can get pretty pricey (we’re looking at you manuka honey!)However, they are well worth the splurge because a little goes a long way. Plus, these foods may be total game changers when it comes to your healthy eating diet and may be exactly what you need to kick your diet into high gear to help give your body that push it needs to help you reach your health goals.

So, what are superfoods exactly? The truth is that there really isn’t a set definition or a set list of foods that are deemed as a mighty superfood. Instead, we can look at superfoods as foods that can help our bodies function at their best. Manuka honey is one of our absolute favorite superfoods for a few reasons. For one, we wouldn’t be seen without this in our natural medicine cabinet during cold and flu season. Stocking up on manuka honey during the winter is one of the best natural ways to keep your immune system in tip-top shape. This liquid gold is a type of honey that comes from New Zealand, and while it may seem like it comes with a super high price tag, you only need about a teaspoon at a time to keep your immune system strong.

In addition to its natural antimicrobial properties, manuka honey is also our go-to natural sweetener for things like protein shakes and smoothies as it packs in some extra nutritional value from the b-vitamin content to zinc, and magnesium. Plus, manuka honey is excellent for supporting gut health, so if you suffer from frequent acid reflux, or indigestion, it may be a total game changer for you.

#2 Turmeric

So we all know turmeric reduces inflammation, but did you know that it can also help reduce pain, supports the immune system, and helps support digestive health? Yup! This is exactly why this powerful spice has wound up on our top five superfood list. And, turmeric is super easy to find and won’t break the bank.
