8 Simple Seasoning Hacks to Make Your Food Taste Delish

Healthy eating tends to come with the stigma that it’s not as delicious as unhealthy options, but hold up. This is totally not the case. Eating healthy can be super delish, nourishing, and fun. We want to share our favorite seasoning hacks to make healthy foods taste ah-mazing without adding all those extra carbs and cals we don’t want. 

8 Simple Seasoning Hacks to Make All Healthy Foods Taste Amazing 

#1 Grab the Garlic

Garlic does all the things when it comes to making food taste better. Oh, and let’s not forget about how great it is for warding off yucky sickness, supporting heart health, and some studies have even found it to be beneficial for boosting athletic performance (sweet!) And let’s not forget about the fact that garlic is super low calorie and low carb, making it an awesome addition to a healthy diet. 

Try adding garlic to homemade marinara sauce, use in your favorite marinade with chicken, or go heavy on the garlic and make homemade garlic bread with fresh garlic, olive oil, and some gluten-free bread. 

#2 Spice it Up

If you love heat, then try to find some creative ways to add some spice to your recipes. This is a seasoning hack that also comes with some added health benefits as spices like cayenne pepper may actually help boost metabolism, and help support weight loss. 

Try making homemade taco seasoning with cayenne pepper, paprika, red pepper flakes, oregano, and garlic powder for a healthy alternative to store-bought seasoning mixes. 

#3 Add Seasoning to Homemade Salad Dressing

Ditch the store-bought salad dressing, and try making your own instead. Add some seasoning like fresh herbs and spices for added flavor and an added health boost. 

One of our fav ways to whip up a homemade salad dressing is by mixing together two tablespoons of olive oil with one tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar, a sprinkle of garlic powder, and oregano, and a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt. Not only will this save you added calories and carbs, but you’ll get the benefit of the healthy fats from the olive oil and the fat-burning benefits of the raw ACV. Plus, the spices will make it taste delish without all that added junk you find in bottled dressings. 

#4 Enjoy The Everything Bagel Flavor Minus the Carby Bagel

Everything bagel fans unite. Did you know that there’s now a way that you can enjoy that classic everything bagel flavor, but without actually eating the bagel? Yup, enter the everything bagel seasoning. You can find this at places like Trader Joes, and the brand Simply Organic makes their own blend. 

Try sprinkling this over half an avocado or with some cucumber slices with some almond-based cream cheese. It’s totally delish and doesn’t tack on added carbs or calories. (win!)

#5 Get Your Pumpkin Fix Without The Added Cals

It’s pumpkin season, so you may be craving that PSL. But we have a better option. This seasoning hack allows you to get your pumpkin fix without the added sugar. 

Try sprinkling some pumpkin pie spice over a bowl of oatmeal, in your cup of yogurt, or make your own pumpkin spice latte with one cup of brewed coffee, half a cup of almond milk, a drizzle of pure maple syrup, and a dash of pure pumpkin spice. Bam! You now have a PSL but without the added calories. 

#6 Get Cheesy With Nutritional Yeast

Ok, we know it sounds gross, but hear us out. Nutritional yeast is actually delicious and the bomb when it comes to finding a dairy-free alternative to regular old cheese. Nutritional yeast is deactivated yeast that comes in flakes and is often used as a vegan cheese alternative. It comes with some great benefits like fiber, vitamins B12, and plant-based protein. 

You can try sprinkling some over popcorn, pasta, or sweet potato fries. It’s a great seasoning hack that provides you with a cheesy flavor, but without the dairy.

#7 Get Fancy With Your Salt Choices

Not all salt is bad. In fact, pink Himalayan sea salt actually comes with lots of benefits from its rich mineral content. You can find pink Himalayan sea salt without a big price tag at places like Costco. 

Try using this salt in place of regular old table salt that’s stripped of its mineral content. 

#8 When in Doubt, DIY

When you are doubting if that seasoning pack at the grocery store is actually healthy, get your DIY on, girl. Chances are, grabbing a few bags of spices from the bulk section at your local grocery store and making your own blend is going to be far healthier and free of any added sugar or fillers. 

You can get creative with your spice blends. You can even make seasonal blends by mixing things like nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove for the holiday season. It only takes a few minutes to toss together some of your favorite flavors to make your own spice blend that’s full of flavor and free of all the added junk you don’t want in your spice mix.

Take your recipes to the next level with these seasoning hacks. It’s important to remember that while herbs and spices are a great addition to your favorite recipes, store-bought options are often full of added ingredients like sugar, added sodium, and artificial flavors. So, make your own whenever possible, and use these seasoning hacks to make all of your foods flavorful without the added carbs and calories.
